There was a time when we would have looked at a home this size and thought, “That’s a bit big for the two of us.” These days, we take them in our stride. Finishing this one was a pretty lovely reminder of how far we’ve come.
Our latest project with Platinum Residential Designer Homes is a custom two-storey home at Lot 5085 on Maclamond Drive, on the canal in Pelican Waters. All Monument on the outside, big open spaces within, and plenty of details to keep us on our toes. We’re absolutely chuffed with how it’s come up.
A bold house, right around
The Monument exterior gives this home real presence. Strong framing, vertical cladding and screening, with stonework adding warmth along the way. Walk around to the canal side and it’s just as impressive: big windows, broad steps and a covered patio made for enjoying that waterfront spot.
We love seeing how the same colour takes on a different character across the rendered walls and finer details. It all comes together beautifully, from the street frontage right down the side of the house.

Big walls and light that shows everything
Inside, the voids and glass-lined upstairs walkway give the home a wonderful sense of space. You can look through the levels, across to the pool and along those tall, light walls. The master bedroom is seriously generous too, with broad windows, soft dark carpet and room to properly spread out.
Those lovely open spaces also gave us some of the most demanding painting. Light glancing across a wall can pick up every little variation in the finish. We gave the voids and the walls running down to the lower levels additional care and an extra coat to help achieve an even finish in that unforgiving light.
It’s the sort of work that quietly disappears into the finished home. You notice the space and the light, which is exactly how we want it.

That dark patio ceiling took some doing
The exterior patio ceiling deserved its own mention. Getting a uniform, streak-free finish across a ceiling in a colour this dark is genuinely tricky. We primed it, then applied three coats to get the finish we were after. For the final coat, it took both of us working together, a roller each, rolling in the same direction to keep the finish consistent.
There’s a fair bit of satisfaction in standing underneath it once it’s done and seeing that even finish overhead. Against the stone columns, glass and canal outlook, it completes a pretty special outdoor space.

A big job, and a very happy pair of painters
We’re still the two of us, Terence and Vanessa. Homes like this used to feel a little daunting; now we can appreciate the scale, work through the details and enjoy bringing it all together. That growing confidence feels good.
And honestly, we’re really impressed with this house. Platinum have created something special here, and we’re super happy with how our work has come up. This was one of those jobs where we finished, stepped back, and had another good look before leaving.
